Watch: Fireball lights the night sky over 15 U.S. states

June 15 (UPI) — A bright fireball illuminated the night sky over several states, including Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina and Texas.

The American Meteor Society said the fireball was spotted just after 10:30 p.m. CDT on Sunday, with reports coming in from at least 15 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Some witnesses said the object appeared to break apart before disappearing from view.

Experts said the object is believed to have been a meteor, rather a man-made space debris. The fireball’s path is being analyzed to determine whether any fragments may have survived entry and made contact with the ground.
