July 29 (UPI) — A Colorado woman who left her back door cracked open for her cat ended up coming face-to-face with a “polite” bear inside her home.
Lynn Feldman said she left the door cracked at her Loveland home so her cat could leave and return as it pleases, but the decision led to her encountering a bear in a hallway.
Feldman said the bear made its way to the living room, and she initially considered trying to scare it away, but decided to instead lock herself in a bathroom and call 911.
“I wasn’t fearful of my life, but I was uncomfortable,” she told KUSA-TV. “Yes, I was uncomfortable with a bear in my house.”
Police arrived on the scene and found the bear had already vacated the premises on its own.
Feldman said the only thing the bear took was some cat food.
“I noticed the cat food was gone,” she said. “So that’s why I call him a polite bear.”
Deputies in Colorado’s Douglas County handled a similar situation a few days earlier when two bear cubs climbed into a house through an open window and were found feasting on cat food.
