President Trump just gave Republicans a major clue about where he thinks the future of the movement could go.
In a new Pod Force One interview with Miranda Devine, Trump floated the idea of Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio running together on the 2028 GOP ticket.
Trump left the top-of-ticket question unsettled.
The signal was still unmistakable: he thinks the pair would be very hard to beat.
Trump:

They get along great. They have a good relationship.

That is not a formal announcement, and nobody should pretend it is.
It is still a major signal from the man whose endorsement will likely shape the entire 2028 Republican field.

President Donald Trump suggested in a recent interview that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio should run together on a ticket in the 2028 presidential election.
In the interview, which was conducted by the New York Post, Trump indicated that he would like to see both men share a ticket, though he did not specify which one should be at the top.
“I like them both. And I like them together,” the president said.
“I don’t know how you beat them if they’re together. That would be a great team.”
Trump went on to describe Vance and Rubio as “similar in a lot of ways” with a good relationship. He added that there was time before any decision needed to be made and that the two would have to agree to such an arrangement.
“I watch them all the time, you know. I study them as they’re with each other. I find it very interesting,” the president remarked, adding that both potential candidates are “very talented.”

The key here is that Trump is not treating Vance and Rubio as rivals who must tear each other apart.
He is openly entertaining the idea that they could be stronger together.
That matters because the early polling already has both men near the top of the Republican field.
RealClearPolling‘s current 2028 Republican nomination average shows Vance at 39.2 percent and Rubio at 22.0 percent, followed by Donald Trump Jr. at 11.0 percent and Ron DeSantis at 8.1 percent.
So Trump is not throwing out two random names.
He is pointing to the sitting vice president and the secretary of state, the two administration figures already occupying the center of the succession conversation.
Fox News picked up the same question quickly.

The order is still the open question.
Vance is the vice president and leads the national Republican average, while Rubio has been gaining attention as one of the administration’s most visible communicators.
But the bigger story is that Trump is already shaping the lane.
He is not waiting for consultants, donors, or the media to decide who inherits the America First movement.
And if Vance and Rubio really do get along the way Trump says they do, the rest of the 2028 field may already have a problem.
