“We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could’ve happened when we were right there. I don’t have that answer.”

A parenting influencer said her young son was injured after she ran over him with her car while leaving her home earlier this week.

Kelly Hopton-Jones, 36, shared details of the incident in a social media post, describing it as “the worst day of our lives.” The Texas-based influencer said she had been preparing to take her 4-year-old daughter to get donuts before a dance performance when the accident happened.

“I was driving,” she wrote. “Our neighbors stepped in immediately and took Lily, and we rushed to the emergency room.” According to Hopton-Jones, her 23-month-old son Henry unexpectedly ran out of the garage and into the vehicle’s path. The incident occurred quickly, she said, “In a matter of seconds. Henry was taken to the hospital, where doctors conducted multiple examinations. Hopton-Jones said X-rays of his chest, legs, and neck were normal, and a neurological evaluation showed no signs of head trauma. He did sustain pelvic fractures and minor abrasions, which she said will “take time to heal.”

“We keep replaying it, trying to understand how this could’ve happened when we were right there. I don’t have that answer,” she wrote. Hopton-Jones, who operates the “Hillside Farmhouse” account with more than 63,000 followers on Instagram, described the incident as “a true nightmare” for parents and said it was “a true miracle” that her son’s injuries were not more severe.

In reflecting on the circumstances, she wrote, “It’s so easy to start questioning everything. If the morning had looked different. If B had gone to work like he normally would have, both kids would have been safely in their car seats. We could drive ourselves crazy with the what ifs, and honestly, we are a little bit,” she added. “But accidents happen.”
