Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on August 27, 2026, finally giving players on Nintendo’s platforms the chance to experience Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, even before its release, fans have spotted what appear to be some changes beyond the visual overhaul.
As first reported by GameRadar, players noticed that references to PlayStation 3, where the game was exclusive until recently, could be changed.
In Metal Gear Solid 4, there is a reference to Metal Gear Solid that includes a famous scene in which Otacon comments on the disc-swapping mechanic from the original game, saying: “Oh wait! We’re on PlayStation 3! It’s a Blu-ray Disc. Dual-layered, too – no need to swap.”
As spotted by users on Reddit, the pages for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2’s manual include a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid 4’s pause menu, showing a live camera feed of Sunny aboard the Nomad.
In the original version, a PlayStation 3 can be seen sitting on the table during some scenes, and the console remains present in the PlayStation, PC, and Xbox versions. However, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions appear to have removed the PS3, replacing it with what looks like GA-KO figures.
While this does not confirm whether Konami has altered Otacon’s iconic line, it does show that the company is willing to make changes to the versions included in the Master Collection. This has naturally led to speculation among fans about what the line might be in the Nintendo versions.
