Russia Could Face New Sanctions, Tariffs: Trump

President Donald Trump warned that Russia could face new sanctions and tariffs until it ends the war in Ukraine. Since it invaded the neighboring country in 2022, Russia has been bombarded with US-led sanctions, effectively removing it from the Western financial system. President Trump’s remarks come days before his administration is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to pursue an end to the Eastern European conflict.

‘Get to the Table Right Now’: “Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED,” Trump said in a March 7 Truth Social post. “To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late.” Related: Why should Americans care about Ukraine?

White House Task Force for 2026 World Cup Launched

President Trump signed a March 7 executive order officially creating a White House task force to oversee preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Trump will head the task force, and Vice President JD Vance will serve as vice chair. An executive director who will manage day-to-day operations has yet to be named. The global event will feature 104 matches played across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Notable Quote: “We’re going to be establishing a task force, a very important task force and that’s on the FIFA World Cup of 2026 which is, you know, is a big event. It’s going to be the biggest event, I think,” Trump said. “It’s a great honor for our country to have it. Actually, it’s a big deal. It’s, I don’t know which is bigger, the Olympics or the World Cup.” Related: Olympics set to bring billions in debt to LA in 2028…

Canadian Lumber, Milk in Trump’s Sights

Canada could soon be slammed with reciprocal tariffs on its dairy and lumber. President Trump told reporters at the Oval Office on March 7 that Canada charges Americans 250% tariffs on dairy products and a “tremendously high tariff” on lumber exports. “They make it impossible for us to sell lumber or dairy products into Canada. But our numbers are a tiny fraction of that. Almost nonexistent,” Trump said, adding that reciprocal tariffs could be implemented soon. “And we may do it as early as today, or we’ll wait till Monday or Tuesday, but that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to charge the same thing. It’s not fair.”

Reduced to Tears: Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was recently reduced to tears following a “colorful” and “heated” phone call with the US president. “We want to continue to be strong and resolute in our response, and we will continue to be there for each other because the unity that Canadians are feeling right now is actually the most important thing in being able to stand up against the trading partner that is much bigger than us,” Trudeau said. Ottawa does not plan to remove its retaliatory tariffs despite the 30-day pause from the current administration. Related: The truth on tariffs…

Trump Names Fox News Hosts to Kennedy Center Board

Two well-known Fox News personalities will join the Kennedy Center’s board. President Trump announced on March 7 that he would appoint Fox News hosts Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo. “I am thrilled to announce that Laura Ingraham and Maria Bartiromo will be joining our Kennedy Center Board – This completes our selection,” Trump said on Truth Social. “We look forward to restoring the Center to Greatness, and ushering in America’s Golden Age. Together, we will Make the Arts Great Again!”

Conquering Kennedy: The president named himself chair of the Kennedy Center’s board last month. He also made several appointments to the Washington, DC, performance arena, including second lady Usha Vance, Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, and ally Dan Scavino. Richard Grenell, the president’s envoy for special missions, was also announced as the interim executive director. Related: Trump conquers the Kennedy Center…

US Economy Adds a Solid 151,000 New Jobs in February

The US labor market is still humming along. The economy created a slightly smaller-than-expected 151,000 new jobs in February, up from the downwardly revised 125,000 in the previous month. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.1% from 4%. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% month over month and increased to 4% from the same time a year ago. The labor force participation rate slipped to 62.4%, while average weekly hours were unchanged at 34.1. Federal government payrolls fell by 10,000, though overall government jobs increased by 11,000.

A Comeback: President Trump touted the February jobs report, calling it a comeback for the US economy. He specifically referenced the 10,000 new manufacturing jobs reported in the latest employment figures. “We’ve not only stopped the manufacturing collapse, but we’ve begun to rapidly reverse it and get major gains,” he said. “These aren’t government jobs, which actually we cut. These are private-sector manufacturing jobs. So we gained all of those jobs, 10,000 jobs, and we barely started yet. That’s very unusual.” Related: An ugly inflation report…
