One of the biggest flubs I’ve seen with Steam Machine accessories came from dBrand’s handling of the Companion Cube case. They tried to sell a case for the Steam Machine based on the Portal Companion Cube, but they never got permission from Valve to do so. However, that didn’t keep dBrand down, and today, they are introducing a new line of skins for the Steam Machine, and some of them look fantastic.
There are nine specific designs that were made for the Steam Machine: Basketbox, Terminal, Flat Earth, Bricks, White and Black Dice, Package, Orange Box, and Touch Grass. All of them have specific designs that pair perfectly with the Steam Machine and come with matching Steam Controller skins.
On top of that, they are bringing a bunch of their classic designs for the Machine, as well as bringing back Pastel colors.
There are three options to get these skins. You can get the faceplate skin only ($17.95), a skin for the entire Machine ($34.95), or one that comes with the Controller skin ($44.95). Since it’s only a $10 increase for the Controller skin, it feels like a no-brainer to include that one if you’re going to be getting the full coverage.
It’s nice to see that the mishandling of the Companion Cube didn’t stop them in their tracks, and some of these designs are great. I love the Terminal and Package designs, and some of the Controller skins that it comes with are incredible too. I’m curious to see if dBrand will try making face plates as well, but it’s hard not to be excited for the skins, as that means more options to customize our machine.
