May 6 (UPI) — A California truck driver who spotted a lottery vending machine at a Maryland truck stop ended up winning $100,000 during his time on the road.
The trucker told Maryland Lottery officials he was making a pit stop in Cecil County before heading back out west when he spotted the lottery vending machine at the Pilot Travel Center truck stop on Center Drive in North East.
“Why not? I have time to kill,” the man recalled thinking.
He selected a $25 ticket, a $1,000,000 Crossword scratch-off. He said the game appealed to him because he enjoys solving crossword puzzles.
The ticket turned out to be a $100,000 second-tier prize winner.
The man attributed his win to “beginner’s luck,” as he is not a regular lottery player.
He said his winnings will go toward putting a down payment on a new home.
