A Portland Antifa militant has been convicted of felony assault against a federal officer. Ginovanni Joseph Brumbelow, 21, of Gresham, pleaded guilty on Monday to striking a Border Patrol BORTAC agent in the head with a wooden stake during a June 2025 riot outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon.
Brumbelow faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. He will be sentenced at the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse on October 19.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on June 14, 2025, during an anti-ICE Antifa direct action planned on “No Kings” day.
Video evidence shows that Brumbelow rushed in to interfere with the arrest of a fellow rioter and used “a pointed wooden stake” to strike the back of the head of a federal agent with the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC). Brumbelow was dressed in all black and equipped with riot gear at the time of the attack.
“A BORTAC agent was assisting with the arrest of a rioter when he felt a sharp pain in the back of his head. The agent released the individual he was arresting and turned to observe a male rioter, later identified to be Brumbelow, directing a pointed wooden stake at him,” the Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a press release.
As part of a plea agreement, Brumbelow has agreed to pay restitution in full to the victim, according to the DOJ.
The June 14, 2025, riot was one of the most violent demonstrations that occurred during the six-month siege of the ICE facility, resulting in several criminal convictions.
Robert Jacob Hoopes, 25, of Portland, was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison in June after pleading guilty to throwing a large rock at an ICE agent’s head. He breached the federal building in concert with black-clad anarchists, leaving the officer bloodied and injured.
The US Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon has charged more than 30 defendants for crimes committed at the Portland ICE facility since June 2025. This includes offenses such as arson, aggravated assault on federal officers, and property damage. Brumbelow will likely be the third defendant to receive jail time. Prosecutions remain ongoing.
