WASHINGTON — Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) held a brief press availability Tuesday morning to announce that she is “finally at peace,” following what she described as the successful transfer of the prestigious “Dumbest Person in Congress” title to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) (aka Elevenhan Omar).
“I just want to say thank you,” said a visibly relaxed Ocasio-Cortez, sipping from a reusable straw. “For years I carried this burden alone. The late nights studying the Green New Deal, the endless questions about whether unemployment is low because people have two jobs, the whole ‘concentration camps’ thing. It was exhausting being the undisputed champion.”
Sources close to the New York congresswoman say she has been under considerable strain since entering office in 2019, frequently finding herself trending for verbal missteps that even her most loyal supporters struggled to defend. Insiders report that Ocasio-Cortez privately referred to herself as “the face of congressional stupidity” as recently as last month.
That all changed Monday night when Rep. Omar delivered a masterclass in legislative incoherence during a House floor speech that left multiple observers reaching for dictionaries, calculators, and in some cases, therapists.
“Ilhan really stepped up,” Ocasio-Cortez continued, nodding appreciatively. “When she started talking about ‘global financial interests’ controlling weather patterns while simultaneously claiming Jews are hypnotizing the world, I felt something I haven’t felt in years: relief. The torch has been passed. I can finally breathe.”
Ocasio-Cortez went on to thank Omar for her “dedication to the craft” and offered a few professional tips should the Minnesota representative wish to solidify her new ranking.
“Look, I told her — stay away from economics if you can help it. That was always my Achilles’ heel. Stick to foreign policy and conspiracies. That’s where the real low-hanging fruit is,” she advised.
When asked if she plans to challenge for the title again in the future, Ocasio-Cortez laughed warmly.
“Oh hell no,” she said. “I’m retiring undefeated in the eyes of approximately 38% of Twitter. That’s good enough for me. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go explain to my staff why rent control is good actually, without using the phrase ‘because vibes.’”
Political analysts described the moment as “historically significant,” noting that the Dumbest Person in Congress title has not changed hands since at least 2018. Some expressed concern that the competition has grown so fierce that other members, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Sen. Bernie Sanders on his more energetic days, may soon throw their hats into the ring.
For her part, Rep. Omar has yet to issue a statement, though her office confirmed she is “very busy” consulting with several unnamed international finance cabals about next week’s weather.
At press time, Ocasio-Cortez was reportedly seen smiling unprompted for the first time since the 2020 election.
Recent “Dumbest Person in Congress” title holders:
- Ilhan Omar (D-MN) – Current champion (as of this week). Successfully dethroned the previous holder with a virtuoso performance blending conspiracy theories, historical revisionism, and creative interpretations of global finance.
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) – Long-reigning title holder (2019–2026). Defended her crown through multiple terms with legendary hits including the unemployment gaffe, “three chambers of Congress,” and pricing miracles under the Green New Deal. Stepped down gracefully upon realizing the torch had been passed.
- Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) – Brief but memorable interim holder in 2024–2025. Excelled in passionate but factually adventurous speeches that kept her firmly in contention.
- Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) – Claimed the belt for several months in 2023–2024 after a series of fiery but intellectually lightweight floor moments and viral video incidents.
- Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) – Held the title during parts of 2022–2023. Noted for elevating slogan-based governance to new artistic heights.
- Cori Bush (D-MO) – Earned a short reign in 2021–2022 with a potent mix of defund-the-police advocacy and creative personal finance narratives.
- Hank Johnson (D-GA) – Legacy title holder (multiple non-consecutive terms, most notably ~2008–2010 and occasional revivals). Famously worried that too many Marines might cause Guam to “tip over and capsize.” A true elder statesman of the division.
- Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) – Multiple-time contender and occasional champion in the 2010s. Renowned for asking if the U.S. flag had been to the Moon and other moments of cosmic curiosity.
- Maxine Waters (D-CA) – Frequent title challenger and occasional holder throughout the 2010s. Master of the “reclaiming my time” technique while occasionally losing track of which decade or which scandal she was discussing.
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) – First term (2019). Won the title almost immediately upon arrival and held it with impressive consistency until the recent peaceful transition of power.
