3 things to know about AI ‘godbots’

As the use of artificial intelligence (AI) soars along with the proliferation of chatbots trained on large language models (LLM) to accurately respond to users’ queries, there’s another development on the AI horizon.

While generative AI becomes mainstream, a number of faith groups have launched their own “godbots” — chatbots trained on sacred texts that answer religious questions, offer guidance, or even lead prayers. 

While some faiths use them as simple website helpers, others have deployed their own chatbots for deeper spiritual roles, stoking questions from some faith leaders about the ethical, psychological and theological implications of doing so.
