Republican State Lawmaker Says “Patriotic Jacket” Prompted Removal From House Floor

A Pennsylvania Republican lawmaker says he was kicked off the floor of the state’s House of Representatives for wearing an American flag-themed suit jacket.

“Kicked off the floor for wearing a Patriotic jacket? That’s right, it happened!” state Rep. Eric Davanzo said.

More from the New York Post:

Davanzo, who represents Pennsylvania’s 58th district in Westmoreland County, stood out among his fellow lawmakers after he opted for a red and white-striped jacket – which he said was bought by his wife Rachelle– and a star-themed tie.

“I will never apologize for putting patriotism before politics,” Davanzo said. “We love our country. We love America, so I’m happy to put this on. I’m proud to wear this.

Even lawmakers on the other side of the aisle approved of Davanzo’s suit.

“That is a very colorful jacket that the representative is wearing today. Very patriotic, I see, my friend,” Rep. Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia County) said.

“Everybody loved it,” Davanzo said. “They come up, people gave me hugs, shaking my hands, ‘Hey, this is great.”

Not everyone appreciated the lawmaker’s eye-catching attire – especially McClinton, the first black speaker of the Pennsylvania house.

“This wasn’t a costume. This is something that I truly believe in. I’m a patriot,” Davanzo said.

“There is nothing wrong with being an American. I am not ashamed to be an American. I love God, and I love my country, and I’m going to continue to do it,” he added.

Fox News shared further:

He noted that the Declaration of Independence was signed 250 years ago Saturday about 250 miles east of his district in Philadelphia and that he is also a “Bicentennial Baby,” born in 1976 and celebrating his 50th birthday this year.

Davanzo also leads the America First Caucus in the State House, which he said focuses on efforts like onshoring manufacturing in the increasingly postindustrial Keystone State and providing for an “automatic death penalty” for illegal immigrants convicted of murdering Pennsylvanians.

“I introduced bills that we would give $250 checks out to every family household in Pennsylvania so that we can celebrate America [250]. This is what I stand for, this is what believe in. I’m just representing my folks back home of who I am,” he said.

“This is a big celebration coming up. I want to be patriotic, why not? What is so wrong with what I have on?” said Davanzo, who wore the very same suit during his interview.
