May 28 (UPI) — A Pennsylvania man stopped for gas on his way home from a weekend at the beach in Maryland and ended up winning a $50,000 lottery prize.

The Wrightsville man told Maryland Lottery officials he and his wife were headed home from a weekend at their vacation house in Ocean City when he stopped for gas and picked up a $5 Winning Streak scratch-off ticket from the Royal Farms on Pulaski Highway in Elkton.

The man said he forgot about the ticket until his wife handed it to him at home a few days later.

The couple were shocked to discover it was a $50,000 winner.

The man said his prize money will go toward paying off his vehicle and the rest will go into savings.
