July 24 (UPI) — A Maine woman’s love for predatory fish led to her earning a Guinness World Record for her 106 tattoos of sharks.
Emily Morrison, a shark biologist and owner of a shark fossil diving tour company, was awarded the title for the most sharks tattooed on the body (female) when her pieces of ink were officially counted by the record-keeping organization in May.
Morrison, known as “Shark Lady Emily,” said her fascination with sharks began as fear when she saw the movie Jaws at the age of 8, but she came to love the animals after her father encouraged her to do research on real-life sharks at the library.
“I have fed tiger sharks and great hammerheads in the Bahamas, cage dove with great whites in Australia, swam with whale sharks off the coast of Mexico, and so much more,” Morrison said.
The shark expert is scheduled to appear on the upcoming special My Strange Shark Addiction, part of the Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week programming event, which starts Sunday.
