May 5 (UPI) — A bear that prompted a park to be closed and an elementary school to be put on lockdown was tranquilized and wound up asleep atop a brick wall.
The bear caused authorities to shut down Hansen Dam Park in the Lake View Terrace area of Los Angeles on Sunday after being spotted in at least three different trees over the course of the day.
The bruin wandered into a Pacoima-area neighborhood on Monday, causing a nearby elementary school to be placed on lockdown.
The bear was tranquilized by California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials working together with park rangers and the Los Angeles Police Department.
The animal’s time wandering the area finally came to an end when it passed out atop a brick wall.
The bear, which did not show any time of aggression toward humans during its time in the city, was taken into custody by wildlife officials and released into the Angeles National Forest.
Steve Gonzalez, a Fish and Wildlife spokesperson, said the bear is about 4-5 years old and weighs 275 pounds.
“We call it a no harm, no foul bear,” Gonzalez told The Los Angeles Times. “It’s a first-time offender.”
