April 9 (UPI) — A Texas cat who had been missing for five years was reunited with her family thanks to the information on her microchip.
The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter said the feline was brought to the facility in late March and scanned for a microchip, which revealed her owners’ information.
“My wife got an email saying the chip had been found, and then I got a text as well. That’s when we checked the Williamson County lost and found page and saw her,” owner Angelique Wethereit told KTBC-TV. “It still doesn’t feel real. I’m still in shock.”
Shelter officials were shocked to learn the pet, named KitKat, had been missing for five years.
“I’ve been doing this since 2013, and I have never seen a reunion after five years. That is incredible,” shelter employee Leo Delgado said.
Delgado said KitKat appeared to be in good health.
“She was in good spirits, very friendly to the staff, and cuddled up to us right away — of course, she was so happy to see her mom,” Delgado said.
