Watch: Stranded dog rescued from high-rise apartment ledge

April 27 (UPI) — A dog who went missing from a high-rise apartment in Australia was spotted stranded on a ledge by a neighbor with a drone.

Jake Dobrin’s 2-year-old Jack Russell terrier, named Elbie, went missing from her home on the 13th floor of Meriton apartments in Dee Why, a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales, on Friday.

A neighbor using a drone spotted Elbie on a neighbor’s balcony ledge after apparently squeezing past some potted plants and through a narrow gap.

The canine was stranded between railings on the other side of the ledge from the balcony.

Firefighter Joel Spillane used vertical rescue equipment to rappel down from the top of the building to where Elbie was located.

Spillane said it took some time to extract Elbie from where she was stranded, but she was eventually winched up to the roof and reunited safely with Dobrin.

Dobrin said Elbie did not appear to be injured, but would be examined by a veterinarian on Monday as a precaution.
