Aug. 14 (UPI) — A Tennessee woman captured video during a recent car trip when a snake slithered out from under the hood of the vehicle.
Analissa Hensley said she and her family were in the car when the serpent made its surprise appearance on Callis Road in Lebanon.
“I’m sitting there like, ‘We have a huge snake on the hood of our car,'” Hensley told WKRN-TV. “We were on our way to Mount Juliet, going to pick up some soccer stuff for my youngest daughter, and we’re just having a conversation and my husband’s like, ‘There’s a snake.'”
Hensley recorded video of the snake, which she estimated to be about 5 feet long.
The family attempted to pull over to the side of the road to get the snake off the car, but it made a jump for it before the vehicle came to a stop.
Mallory Tate, a biodiversity biologist for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, said the serpent in the video appears to be a grey rat snake. She said the species is not venomous and is very common in the state.
Snakes have made appearances on the hoods and windshields of moving cars several times in the past. A 2023 incident in The Village, Okla., ended up involving local police who captured and relocated the snake.
