Aug. 7 (UPI) — Animal services workers in Dallas came to the rescue of a raccoon seen wandering a neighborhood for several days with a mayonnaise jar stuck over its head.
The raccoon, dubbed Mayonesa by locals, had been repeatedly spotted over the course of multiple days in a residential area, but managed to evade capture attempts.
A pair of Dallas Animal Services officers located Mayonesa in a tree near an abandoned house on Monday morning and waited at the base of the tree for the raccoon to come down.
Mayonesa eventually descended the tree, and an officer was able to approach her from behind and safely capture her.
She was taken back to Dallas Animal Services, where she was sedated and given fluids before the jar was removed.
“Aside from dehydration after several days without food and water, she was in remarkably good condition and full of energy,” Animal Services said on social media.
Mayonesa is currently being cared for by Texas Metro Wildlife and will soon be returned to the wild.
