Feb. 17 (UPI) — A zoo in France announced a mother elephant gave birth to a healthy baby after more than 21 months of pregnancy.
The ZooParc de Beauval in Saint-Aignan, Loir-et-Cher, said on social media that mother elephant N’Dala gave birth to a healthy female baby at 4:02 a.m. local time on Sunday.
The zoo said the birth came “after more than 21 months of pregnancy and a long night under high surveillance.”
The mother and baby are being monitored closely by veterinarians and will soon be viewable in the facility’s Elephant House.
Officials said a name for the new arrival, which weighed in at about 330 pounds when she was born, will be announced soon.
