March 4 (UPI) — A Florida man preparing to leave for work was delayed by the presence of a 7-foot boa constrictor taking a rest in his driveway.

Jay Slagle said he looked outside his second-floor window Sunday in the Woodbine neighborhood of Riviera Beach when he spotted the snake in his driveway.

A neighbor called 911 and was threatening to shoot the snake if no help arrived.

Riviera Beach Police Officer Josh Wilson arrived on the scene and worked with Slagle to scoop the snake up with a shovel and place it into a recycling bin.

A state-licensed trapper was summoned to the scene to take the snake to a safer location.

Python hunter Taylor Stanberry, who reviewed footage of the snake, told The Palm Beach Post that the boa constrictor was most likely an escaped pet, “and an expensive one.”

She said boa constrictors sell for about $100 to more than $1,000.
