March 16 (UPI) — A dog seen wandering for several days with a bucket stuck over its head in Alabama has been freed thanks to the efforts of multiple local residents.
Eric Bowman led the effort to find the dog in Winston County after photos appeared on social media showing the canine with a bucket stuck over its head.
Animal trapper Kaleb Estill, who assisted with the search and rescue operation, announced on social media that the lab mix, now named Buck, had been successfully captured along with his companion, a Belgian Malinois rescuers dubbed Milo.
“I came up behind him with a pair of snips and started cutting on the bucket,” Bowman told WVTM-TV. “We eased the bucket off his head, and it was like his whole attitude changed. As soon as that bucket came off his head, you could see the relief on him, and he just went almost limp.”
The dogs are both being treated for injuries by a veterinarian and will soon be put up for adoption.
“I hope that they find a good owner that’ll keep them both together,” Estill said. “Because that Malinois stuck with that black dog through all that. They definitely have a bond.”
