Aug. 10 (UPI) — Police and sheriff’s deputies in Alabama “traded in traffic stops for rodeo duty” when they were called to lasso a 1,500-pound bull on the loose.
The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that deputies responded alongside Carrollton Police Department officers when the bull was spotted wandering near Pickens Academy.
The longhorn led its pursuers on a chase across Highway 17 and back to the neighborhood where it was originally spotted.
A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows responders on horseback attempting to lasso the bovine.
“Our oversized escape artist was safely rounded up without injury,” the post said.
“We all learned one thing today we’re probably better off patrolling the county than trying to make a living on the rodeo circuit,” officials wrote. “We”ll hang our cowboy hats and boots back on the wall at least until the next bull decides to go sightseeing.”
