Watch: ‘Darth Vader’ defends Flock cameras at San Diego City Council meeting

Aug. 21 (UPI) — A man dressed as Darth Vader attended a San Diego City Council meeting to defend the use of Flock cameras as “what the Emperor needs.”

The Star Wars villain approached the podium during the Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee meeting to satirically urge officials to install Flock cameras in the city.

The man said the cameras are “what the Emperor needs” to “help us find the rebel scum and their hidden base on Hoth.”

“The Emperor is a fan of Flock, and we must continue utilizing Flock technologies so that we can follow and surveil the rebel scum as they move from playground to playground, from playground to pool, from pool to gymnasium, because we all know that the Flock cameras are not only following the license plate readers, they are following children,” the man said.

Darth Vader said he also wants the cameras for a personal reason: “I need this so I can stalk my ex-girlfriend.”

The cosplayer told council members they should practice their “Jedi mind trick” to convince the public of the importance of the cameras. He said money should be diverted from other public services.

“We do not need parks. We do not need libraries. We do not need daycare centers. We do not need homeless shelters. All we need is money for our Storm Troopers,” he said.

“We will not succumb to the forces of Democratic will. No, this council was elected to serve the police, not the public, and if our Storm Troopers don’t receive all the funding that they deserve, there will be hell to pay with the Emperor, and he is not as forgiving as I.”
