July 15 (UPI) — A theme park in Colombia paid tribute to the local pottery tradition by creating the world’s largest piggy bank out of ceramic.
The ceramic pig at Mano del Artesano — Pueblito de Barro in Ráquira stands 29 feet and 6.3 inches tall, measures 33 feet and 11.8 inches long and weighs in at roughly 30 tons.
The hollow pig has a working coin slot, where visitors can drop their change to be donated to local animal shelters.
The inside of the pig, which can be visited by guests, features a gallery dedicated to the history of ceramic piggy bank creation in the region. There is also a lookout point on the pig’s nose for guests to enjoy the view.
Guinness World Records Adjudicator Natalia Ramirez used satellite technology to calculate the pig’s precise measurements for the title of the world’s largest piggy bank.
“Reviewing a structure of this scale was an absolute privilege,” Ramirez said. “The sheer precision of the clay modeling is stunning.”
“I actually climbed all the way to the very top of the massive piggy bank structure to conduct the official coin-drop test, and the panoramic view of the Boyacá mountains from up there was absolutely beautiful,” she said.
