Trans lobby hijacks primary school reading with ‘sex-change propaganda’ including books featuring children ‘born in the wrong body’, women with beards and bizarre ‘non-binary’ guinea pigs

According to a damning report highlighted by The Mail on Sunday, trans activists are increasingly influencing children’s reading materials in primary schools across Britain through a wave of picture books promoting gender identity concepts.

The report, titled Through The Looking Glass and produced by the SEEN (Sex Equality and Equity Network) in Publishing group in collaboration with other organizations, identifies more than 60 titles from major publishers that feature themes of children being “born in the wrong body,” women displaying beards or mastectomy scars, and other gender-related narratives.

These books, often brightly illustrated, are making their way into classrooms despite limited commercial appeal, primarily through recommendations from inclusivity groups.

The publication warns that gender affirmation ideology has deeply influenced publishing staff, authors, and librarians. It states: “Gender affirmation has really got its claws into publishing staff, authors and librarians. Publishing has been entirely captured by a warped ideology and is now severely out of step with the population at large.”

Despite scant evidence of strong sales in the open market, the books are reportedly used in hundreds of primary schools. Organizations such as No Outsiders, Stonewall, The Rainbow Flag Award, and Just Like Us recommend them for diversity and inclusion lessons or compulsory relationships education sessions. Parents have raised objections, claiming they received no prior notice about the content being shared with their young children.

Examples cited in the report include The ABC Of Gender Identity, which introduces terms like agender, bigender, and cisgender to children aged five and up; Bodies Are Cool, portraying diverse bodies including women with beards and mastectomy scars for ages two to eight; Grandad’s Pride, featuring images of bondage gear and trans flags; Introducing Teddy, in which a male teddy bear declares he is a girl teddy; Peanut Goes For The Gold, centered on a non-binary guinea pig; and Bye Bye, Binary, narrated by a baby rejecting gender norms.

Former Children’s Laureate Anne Fine OBE, a highly decorated author known for works like Madame Doubtfire, has endorsed the report. She condemns what she sees as a betrayal of young readers. Fine states: “Over the last decade, publishers, booksellers, librarians and joyless would-be authors became a major conduit for trans-activist propaganda and harmful lies.”

She further describes the situation as a “dismal betrayal of young people” driven by an “unthinking capitulation to a biologically unfounded ideology.”

Helen Joyce from the Sex Matters campaign group added her voice, expressing alarm at the trend’s impact on young minds. “The extent to which children’s publishing has been taken over by trans narratives is quite terrifying,” she said.

The report frames the issue as one of safeguarding rather than free speech, urging publishers to withdraw such materials for children. It argues that taxpayer-funded school programs are sustaining titles that might otherwise fade due to weak storytelling, and calls for a return to literature focused on strong characters, engaging plots, and imaginative worlds.
