A South Carolina transgender activist who threatened to assassinate Congresswoman Nancy Mace has avoided prison time. Samuel “Roxie Wolfe” Theodore Cain, 20, was sentenced on Tuesday to five years in prison, suspended to 30 months of house arrest, followed by five years of probation, according to WRDW.
Cain, who pleaded guilty to making threats against Mace, issued the following May 2025 since-deleted social media post: “I’M GOING TO ASSASSINATE REPRESENTATIVE NANCY MACE WITH A GUN AND I’M BEING 100% DEAD A**,” an arrest warrant states.
The sentence also issued a permanent restraining order to protect Mace. While in prison, Cain had also reportedly expressed a desire to kill the congresswoman if given the opportunity while speaking to a “jailhouse informant,” according to Mace’s victim impact statement. The comments were allegedly made while discussing the September 2025 assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
“A person who truly regrets his words and now insists they were never meant as threats does not restate the same violent intent from inside a jail cell,” Mace wrote in her statement, asserting that Cain had expressed renewed intent to kill her after his initial apprehension.
Cain must also abide by a lengthy list of conditions as part of his sentence. This includes: GPS monitoring; psychiatric evaluations; a 7 pm to 6 am curfew; no contact with Congresswoman Mace, her family, and staff; must not possess firearms and ammunition; cannot leave the state of South Carolina; complete weekly drug screenings; complete vocational rehabilitation; must obtain employment; complete 100 hours of community service; may not access social media or use the internet for any purpose besides work, according to court records.
While in custody, Cain attempted to bond out three times, but was denied. He burst into tears as a result. At the time, the judge found him “to be a danger to the community.” If Cain violates his sentencing conditions, he will be remanded to prison.
Mace said the threats against her will not stop her from “fighting for South Carolina.”
