The War on Melania

The War on Melania

Atheist-leftists who praise Pope Leo XIV because of his relentless attacks on President Trump’s policies, namely on immigration and the war on Iran, have a long track record of attacking (and hating) Melania Trump.

This group – which includes everybody from James Carville to the hacks associated with Vogue magazine – had just gotten over critiquing Melania’s impromptu Jeffrey Epstein speech when the verbal war between Pope Leo and Donald Trump mushroomed into a full-scale explosion. Everyone weighed in on the fight – even fake Catholics and pagans who laugh at Church teaching on moral issues but pretend to be outraged when the president confronts a man once known as the Vicar of Christ (a title rarely used), but who is now the Vicar of Globalism, Christ be damned.

Melania, of course, is Catholic. When she and Donald Trump visited Pope Francis in 2017, she had rosary beads and wore a mantilla. In every way she was the picture of the classic Catholic woman visiting the pope. Yet critics then inferred that Pope Francis had a sneer on his face and wasn’t at all happy about meeting Melania and Donald.

Contrast this with President Biden’s Pope Francis visit in 2021, when the leftwing Politico observed:

“As cameras clicked away in the background, Biden, who will turn 79 next month, and Pope Francis, who turns 85 in December, smiled and seemed genuinely happy to see each other. It was their fourth in-person meeting, according to the White House.”

Photos of that meeting show a jubilant Pope Francis. In fact, his wide, toothy smile indicated a real ideological camaraderie with the Democrat president who did nothing as over 8 million migrants crashed the U.S. border. The photo of Biden and Francis is so chummy-looking that one expects the two to break out into a French kiss in the name of illegal immigration, whereas the meeting with Trump was stiff and funereal.

The Marxist pope tolerated Donald Trump but this uneasy peace created a kind of caustic vibe that caused many to wonder how the president must have felt at the time.

It certainly made me think of French writer Jean Cocteau’s comment, “I’m not willing just to be tolerated. That wounds my love of love and of liberty.”

After Melania Trump’s Epstein speech, in which she disassociated herself from Epstein’s intimate orbit, late-night hack Jimmy Kimmel, ever-ready to trash anyone named Trump (except the retarded Mary Trump), flashed a photo on his show of Melania with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. An adolescent gimmick like this was vintage Kimmel. The photo was supposed to send a message that the Trumps and Epstein were once connected at the hip, contrary to Melania’s earlier statement that everyone of a certain class in New York eventually comes into contact with everyone else: they meet at parties, dinners, receptions, and are sometimes thrown together for quick celebrity photo ops. These superficial meetings often mean nothing more than the champagne-tipsy rich saying hello at another New York party.

Trashing Melania Trump began in earnest in 2015 when Donald Trump announced his intention to run for president. Critics cited her accent then as odd (it was not Hispanic, therefore not laudable). Despite the fact that she really was the most physically beautiful First Lady ever to grace the White House since Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania’s detractors only saw her through the lens of her husband.

Denying Melania’s obvious beauty became a calling card for woke Democrats.

In 2016, late-night TV hack Stephen Colbert accused Melania of plagiarism because he saw her speech at the GOP convention as a copy and paste version of Michelle Obama’s speech at the DNC in 2005.

Even after four years of Jill Biden as First Lady and her ‘Bag Lady School of Fashion’ sense – consider her penchant for seersucker material and bell sleeves reminiscent of diapers – Melania was still being pilloried as an unacceptable outsider.

It didn’t help, of course, when Melania opted in 2016 not to move into the White House with son Barron but instead live in New York. For many this was as much a break with tradition as her Eastern European accent that carried no political capital.

And yet, compared to other First Ladies, Melania had a much smaller White House staff. Michelle Obama’s staff was so large it cost taxpayers $1.24 million a year, but Melania’s small crew cost taxpayers a relatively humble $486,700 annually.

Unlike Jill Biden, Melania’s fashion choices have been described as bold and symbolic, but never tacky or ill-fitting.

Immediately after her Epstein speech, USA Today described Melania’s grey Prada suit as “coded.” “She’s a victim, but not Epstein’s,” the USA Today writer declared, a sinister reference  to her husband, the president, whom many deranged lefties love describing as a “pedophile,” though all of them remain clueless about the true definition of a pedophile – an interest in prepubescent children – just as they cannot define what a woman is.

In 2020, singer Bette Midler, who started out in a New York gay bathhouse performing for promiscuous gay men draped in towels with anal lube in their fanny packs, called Melania an “illegal alien.” Once again, it was Melania’s accent that rubbed Midler the wrong way.

Joy Behar on The View expressed astonishment that Melania, despite the fact that she can speak several languages, still spoke with accent-encumbered English. Behar later apologized for the comment but insisted she “feels sorry for Melania Trump,” a reference to the former’s hatred of her husband and the wifely duties she imagined she had to perform in the boudoir.

In 2018, Melania was raked over the coals for the all-red Christmas trees she chose for the East Colonnade. Critics compared them to the red cloaks in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The First Lady was forced to defend them as “fantastic” and “beautiful.”

“We are in 21st Century and everybody has a different taste,” she said at that time. “I think they look fantastic. I hope everybody will come over and visit it. In real life, they look even more beautiful. You are all welcome to visit the White House, the people’s house.”

In 2017, gay sex columnist Dan Savage announced on his podcast that too many liberals were giving First Lady Melania Trump a pass because of her looks.

“God knows there’s enough hate in the world and I don’t want to add to the sum total, but forgive me, I have got to get this off my chest: I f—ing hate Melania Trump. I’m not alone in loathing Donald Trump’s third wife — she’s married to a misogynist after all. Odds are good her husband hates her too,” Savage continued. “The pretty princess in the tower locked up by the orange ogre with the bad combover…”

This is fanny pack Bette Midler, bathhouse talk. It’s boring, predictable and dated.

As for those other Melania-haters in white towels that parrot Savage – celebrities like Lady Gaga, Helen Mirren, Chelsea Handler, Kathy Griffin, Jim Carrey, and Jimmy Kimmel, etc – it would do well for them to finally leave this steam room of hate and intolerance.
