The Stranger Things Finale is Almost Upon Us

It’s been almost a decade since Stranger Things captured the world’s attention back in 2016, with its Spielbergian visual style and storyline of a ragtag group of kids fighting supernatural (and government) forces, and its now immediately recognizable theme song that lifted heavily from John Carpenter’s movie theme style.

Readers of the Daily Grail would also have recognized the influence of some paranormal/government conspiracy theories on the Duffer Brothers in creating the Stranger Things world, from the very real MK-ULTRA to the more dubious Montauk Project, as well as parapsychological elements that range from telekinesis through to remote viewing – which no doubt made it fun viewing for Grailers!

And now, as 2025 comes to a close, the Stranger Things storyline reaches its denouement in two instalments over November and December. The official trailer for Season 5 has just dropped, and – as with previous seasons – it uses an 80s music classic (and one of my personal favourites) to great effect: Queen’s “Who Wants to Live Forever”, originally from the movie Highlander.

I’m still hanging out in hope that they might also use a song by The Cure at some stage – could there be an 80s band more suited to the spooky vibe of Stranger Things?
