North Dakota state Rep. Liz Conmy, of Fargo, was identified as one of the victims.
A small aircraft went down shortly after takeoff Saturday morning in a suburb north of Minneapolis, killing two people, including a North Dakota state legislator, authorities said. The crash happened near Crystal Airport and sparked an immediate emergency response.
Officials later confirmed the plane went down just minutes after departure. Police said they received a report at 11:51 am and found the aircraft burning in a park in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. One officer described the wreckage as fully engulfed when crews arrived.
Brooklyn Park Police Inspector Matt Rabe said the aircraft had taken off shortly before the crash and went down soon after. Investigators have not yet released further details on the cause, reports the New York Post.
North Dakota state Rep. Liz Conmy, of Fargo, was identified as one of the victims. State Sen. Tim Mathern confirmed her death to the Star Tribune. Conmy was serving in the North Dakota Legislature at the time of the crash.
The North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party confirmed her death in a post on X, describing her as a strong advocate for public education, environmental issues, and government transparency.
“We are completely heartbroken and gutted by the loss of Representative Liz Conmy. Her death is a profound loss for our state,” the party said in a post on X.
