March 16 (UPI) — A Maryland woman said a timely reminder from her sister to pick up lottery tickets led to her winning a $50,000 prize from a scratch-off ticket.

The Prince George‘s County woman told Maryland Lottery officials she was on her way home from work when her sister called to remind her to buy lottery tickets.

She stopped at the Wawa on Brooks Drive in District Heights and bought several draw game tickets and a $10 scratch-off. She said she was on her way out of the store when she turned around and bought an additional $5 scratch-off.

That last ticket, a Winning Streak scratch-off, turned out to be a $50,000 top prize winner.

“When I tried to see how much I won, it said, ‘Bring to retailer,'” she recalled.

The winner collected her prize March 12 at lottery headquarters. She said the prize money will go toward new furniture, a family trip to Belize and travel expenses for her daughter’s cheer competitions.
