Nintendo’s new Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 hasn’t had a very good track record with leaks. Everything about it has leaked – the existence of the game itself was outed and hinted at months before its official announcement, and more recently new Zelda-themed Switch 2 consoles and Switch 2 Pro Controllers found their way online.
Though we still haven’t seen any gameplay at the time of writing, it’ll be interesting to see how Nintendo goes about sharing it for the first time as well as which avenue they choose to do so. It’s fairly clear that the company hasn’t really been in control when it comes to releasing new tidbits about the Ocarina of Time remake, so today, we’re speculating where and when we might see the game, and when it may release.
One really good way to possibly predict game releases is by looking at amiibo. They’re often announced months in advance, and they almost always release on the same day as a new Nintendo game. The only exception to this in recent history has been the Chef Kawasaki amiibo, which releases on September 3 all by itself. The upcoming Sword Kirby and Noir Dedede figure for Kirby Air Riders are supposedly set for release on November 12, which is a Thursday – that lines up so far.
This also begs the question, will the Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console and Pro Controller release the same day? That would be a lot of products to release on the same exact day, but it wouldn’t be the first time this has happened. Nintendo used to release well over seven amiibo per wave, and as recently as 2025 the company released the Switch 2, Mario Kart World, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom’s Switch 2 Editions, and four new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo all on the same day. So it’s certainly possible we get another huge Nintendo shopping spree day, with the release of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, two Kirby Air Riders amiibo that are almost as expensive as the game, a new Switch 2 console, and a new Switch 2 Pro Controller.
But it’s also important to note, the leaked designs don’t mention the Ocarina of Time remake – just that it’s Zelda’s 40th anniversary. So theoretically, Nintendo could release this new Switch 2 gear all on its own, separately from the Ocarina of Time remake – maybe a week before? That becomes more likely if it turns out this bundle doesn’t include a digital copy of Ocarina of Time. The leaked box doesn’t mention any included digital copy at all, so that does seem to be the case. Regardless, we’re sure that the Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 and controller will be extremely popular and most likely sell out fast. Let’s hope we don’t see them marked up 50 percent on resale sites as soon as they go live!
And as for the Ocarina of Time remake itself, it’ll be interesting to see if Nintendo does a devoted Nintendo Direct or includes it as a part of a general September Direct. Ocarina of Time is prolific enough of a remake to warrant its own presentation, but it’s possible that Nintendo could just segment off 20 minutes of a general Direct even though the game could technically stand on its own. There’s always the occasional Nintendo Today news shadowdrop, but we feel like the game is too big for that – it deserves a spotlight in a Nintendo Direct, at minimum. Historically, Nintendo usually hosts a presentation in September, and as August draws to an end we’re sure to hear some rumors begin to stir.
