April 24 (UPI) — A Michigan man received a scratch-off lottery ticket as a gift from his sister on his birthday and it turned out to be a $500,000 present.

The Saginaw County man told Michigan Lottery officials he owes his windfall to his 66th birthday overlapping with another holiday.

“My family’s Easter party happened to be on my birthday this year, so at the party, my sister gave me a lottery ticket as a birthday gift,” the player said. “On my way home, I stopped at the store, scratched the barcode, and scanned the ticket. I got a message to file a claim at the lottery office, so I scratched the ticket when I got home to see what I’d won. I was so shocked and excited when I saw the $500,000 win! I called my sister to tell her the news, and she was just as excited as I was.”

The man’s sister bought the $5 Money Rush ticket from the Kroger store on North Main Street in Frankenmuth.

The winner said he will save his prize money for retirement.
