In 2023, participants in New York City’s annual Drag March were filmed chanting, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children,” footage that circulated widely and drew criticism from commentators and political figures.
Among those responding at the time was then-Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who condemned the chant and called for legislative action, including support for the Protect Children’s Innocence Act.
The phrase has also been compared to a 2021 controversy involving the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, which faced backlash after releasing a satirical video containing the lyrics, “We’ll convert your children.” The group later said the song was intended as irony aimed at mocking accusations directed at the LGBTQ community, though critics argued the messaging was inappropriate regardless of intent.
