Feb. 20 (UPI) — Animal rescuers in Britain credited a child on their walk to school with the speedy rescue of a muntjac deer found wedged in a fence.
The RSPCA said a child walking to school recently alerted the residents of a home that a small deer was stuck between the metal bars of their garden gate.
“Luckily, the kind-hearted child alerted the tenants, who gave us a quick call and thankfully, teamwork prevailed,” the RSPCA said on social media.
RSPCA personnel responded alongside the London Fire Brigade to widen the bars so the deer could squeeze through.
“As muntjac deer are listed as an invasive alien species by the U.K. Government, it’s illegal to take them into care for rehabilitation,” the post said. “Thankfully, this little one was able to be released in-situ and ran into a nearby garden for some much-deserved rest.”
