Aug. 7 (UPI) — Fire departments in Georgia teamed up to rescue a 1,600-pound horse found trapped on its side in a creek at the back of its owner’s property.

The Forsyth County Fire Department said on social media that its Rescue 12 crew was summoned to the property on Tuesday when the horse was found unable to stand up in the creek.

The crew summoned assistance from the Cherokee County Fire Department’s Technical Large Animal Rescue Team.

“Both departments worked together over 5 hours trying different strategies to help the animal up,” the post said. “Ultimately, we used Cherokee’s large animal tripod to lift the horse to its feet.”

The horse was examined by a veterinarian at the scene and was able to walk back to its stable after regaining feeling in its legs.
