Made to wait for Croft’s next adventure

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will let you relive the original Lara Croft adventure early next year, but if you’re after the brand new instalment, Tomb Raider Catalyst, you’ve now got to wait until 2028.
The two titles were announced at the same time, originally slated for 2026 and 2027. Now, both games will release one year after the intended dates.
Word of the delay was let slip by Amazon Games boss Jeffrey Gattis, who casually mentioned in an interview with The Game Business that Tomb Raider Catalyst is now launching in 2028.
“We have announced the two Tomb Raider titles. [Legacy of] Atlantis comes February 12 next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one. We’re excited about those. There are some other AAA things that are in various stages of discussion right now.”
Catalyst is running on Unreal Engine 5 and has been described as “perfect for longtime fans and newcomers” as it represents a new chapter in the saga, set in India. “When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain.”
Since this is the first case of a PS5 game being delayed from 2027 to 2028, it’ll be interesting to see what happens with it on the physical discs front. Theoretically, you should only be able to get Tomb Raider Catalyst digitally now.
You get Legacy of Atlantis on 12th February 2027, then it’ll be a year-long wait for the next new entry in Lara Croft’s story. What do you make of this? Put your thoughts in the comments below.
