Apple’s biggest test in the foldable smartphone is to address a design problem that none of its competitors have scaled past; the crease. Despite the iPhone Fold being rumored to enter trial production at Foxconn, there have been multiple instances where the California-based giant has been reported to have faced problems and attempted to fix them using a different set of materials.
These would not just strengthen the primary inner display but also prevent that crease from materializing. Given that Apple is a company that is under the scrutiny radar more often than its rivals, the longevity of the iPhone Fold’s crease-less panel will be under the global market’s watchful eyes, especially after one OPPO Find N6 owner reveals that the latter’s marketing material claiming its crease-less screen has been proven false.
Despite the crease being prominent under various lighting conditions, OPPO’s ‘Zero-Feel Crease’ claims stand firm in one comparison
Former concept creator Ben Geskin was daily driving OPPO’s Find N6 for an entire month while also owning the previous-generation Find N5. In his first post, it’s revealed that the Chinese manufacturer’s latest offering has a visible blemish, meaning that the crease-less claims have been put to rest. On the Find N6’s product page, the following description is mentioned regarding the technology used to minimize this crease.
“Industry-first 3D Liquid Printing and the Clover Balance Pivot bring exceptional precision to the 2nd-Generation Titanium Flexion Hinge, creating a flatter display, a shallower crease, and smooth, confident folding built to last.”
While it’s evident that the Find N6 will be called out for these claims, especially the ‘TÜV Rheinland’ certification that promises that the screen will stay flat even after 600,000 folds and unfolds, Ben reveals that OPPO’s Zero-Feel Crease claims are pretty accurate because he can barely feel the center bump when running his finger across the inner display. In short, it’s not about how visible the crease is, but whether you can feel it or not.
“Zero-Feel Crease” refers to a visual effect where the crease is typically not visible from most viewing angles and under normal use conditions. It does not mean the crease is physically absent. Visibility may vary depending on individual perception, lighting, and specific content displayed.
Let’s compare the crease on OPPO Find N6 on day one vs after a month of use. And also against OPPO Find N5 after a full year.

Of course, the iPhone Fold is expected to top the Find N6’s technology, however challenging the task is at hand. From reportedly using Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) of varying thicknesses to incorporating polyimide film (PI) on top of the UTG to boost scratch resistance, Apple appears to be doing everything in its resources and manpower to mitigate the crease’s visibility.

However, we can guarantee that the first thing reviewers will do is shine the iPhone Fold’s inner display at a light source since that’s the easiest way to find out how prominent the crease is. In short, Apple can’t escape the barrage of criticisms that will be directed at its direction, so the company should do its level best to ensure that the iPhone Fold offers the best design in its weight class.
