MONTECITO — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have purchased an entirely new wardrobe in preparation for their anticipated return to the United Kingdom, sources close to the couple confirmed Thursday.
The collection consists primarily of traditional Muslim attire, including several abayas, modest long-sleeved garments, and a full-coverage burka for the Duchess of Sussex.
A spokesperson for the couple described the acquisitions as a practical and respectful adjustment to their forthcoming life in Britain. “The clothing reflects a considered approach to the cultural and social environment they expect to re-enter,” the statement said. “It prioritizes modesty, discretion, and an absence of visual self-promotion.”
Associates noted that the new garments mark a departure from the couple’s previous public style, which had emphasized contemporary Western fashion and personal branding. One source familiar with the purchases observed that “the burka, in particular, offers a level of anonymity and institutional compliance that their California wardrobe never quite achieved.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the couple’s sartorial preparations, stating only that “matters of personal dress remain a private concern.”
Royal watchers pointed out that the timing coincides with the couple’s earlier indication of interest in rejoining the institutional framework they left in 2020. Whether the new attire will be worn at official engagements or reserved for private life has not been clarified.
As of press time, neither Harry nor Meghan had been photographed in the garments.
