Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on July 28 as a reimagining of the classic Combat Evolved experience replete with NVIDIA RTX and DLSS tech, and despite considerable hype leading up to the game’s release, it seems as though it has not been quite as popular as it may have initially seemed.

While player count is only one way to judge the success of a video game, Halo: Campaign Evolved peaked at an underwhelming 25,376 concurrent players on Steam, according to player count trackers on SteamDB. Campaign Evolved’s review score echoes its launch performance, with Steam reporting a Mixed rating of 67% positive reviews out of a pool of 6,574 user reviews.

Steam reviews, mixed as they are, point to a number of issues with the game, however, many of those issues are more related to technical issues than not. For the most part, the gameplay is at least passably good, according to most of the reviews, although most reviewers seem to recommend Halo: The Master Chief Collection instead, which delivers six Halo games in one bundle that costs less than Campaign Evolved.

Some of the niggles that keep coming up across the Steam reviews are poor performance, especially for the graphical fidelity; unsatisfying voice acting; unpredictable aiming mechanics; buggy gameplay; and login issues due to the always-online requirement.
