Gran Turismo 7 continues to evolve, with a new content update available today that brings not only new cars from across the automotive spectrum but a handful of some pretty esoteric changes to the title too.

Coming in at around 1GB — a little under on PlayStation 5, a little over on PlayStation 4 — the 1.69 update is pretty average in terms of size, but has a couple of surprises even above and beyond those already detailed in the regular pre-update tease yesterday. Let’s dig in and see what’s on offer:

Table of Contents

The cars are the least surprising part here, as we’ve effectively know what they are for much of a week. There were some unexpected details, but all that’s left now is pricing:

  • Porsche 911 (964) Turbo S Leichtbau 1993 – Legends Cars – 1,200,000cr*
  • Renault Twingo 1993 – Used Cars – 14,000cr*
  • Yangwang U9 2024 – Brand Central – 350,000cr

Everything’s about where we expected, with the rare 911 comfortably the most expensive at 1.2m credits, about the dollar value of the cars when they come up for auction every now and then. The U9 is also getting on for its real-world value, while the Twingo slots in as one of the cheaper cars in the game.

All tallied, the current outlay (as cars in Used and Legends cars may change value) puts 1.69 in as the 21st most-expensive update in car value terms thus far — though there’s a lot more expense buried a bit deeper.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: New Races & Events

Along with the three new races — none of which star the Twingo, sadly — there’s a new collection-based Extra Menu Book, and the time-limited Seasonal Menu returns too. There’s also some headlining changes to the Power Pack DLC and a fourth new Circuit Experience in four updates, but this one is wild.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: New World Circuits Races

  • Hypercar Parade – Yas Marina (5 laps) – 90,000cr
  • Schwarzwald League – Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (4 laps) – 56,000cr
  • World Touring Car 900 – Interlagos (12 laps) – 170,000cr

Although it has a decent reward for victory, at 170,000cr, the new World Touring Car 900 race at Interlagos is a pretty milquetoast affair comprising a 12-lap race at the Brazilian F1 circuit with Gr.2 rivals.

The U9 is pressed into immediate action (twice, as it features in the new Time Trial event too) in the Hypercar Parade race at Yas Marina, over five laps with a 90,000cr prize for victory. That leaves the Schwarzwald League race, starring the Leichtbau and offering 56,000cr (quite a bit less than the car will cost you) for the win.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: New Circuit Experience

The fourth new Circuit Experience in a row whips us over to the Nurburgring for a third such event there to join the GP circuit and the Nordschleife. With plenty of remaining layouts to pick from, PD has of course selected the Endurance II track. For those not keeping up, that’s the reverse course.

Added in Spec III, for some reason, this layout takes you all the way around the Endurance layout the wrong way, in the 911 RSR. There’s 11 sectors, each worth up to 6,000cr, and the full lap at 60,000cr, but the bonuses make it all worthwhile.

Pass everything and you get 1,000,000cr, with another 5,000,000cr on top of that for hitting a gold time in every sector.

A first Extra Menu in a while will see you collecting muscle cars for a Five-Star Roulette ticket reward. You’ll need the Chevrolet Chevelle SS, the Dodge Charger R/T Hemi, and the Pontiac GTO “The Judge” for this one.

The three new cars in this update are also part of the Seasonal Menu feature introduced in Spec III. You’ve got slightly under three weeks to collect all three, also for a Five-Star Roulette ticket.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: Power Pack Changes

We already heard from the pre-update teaser that a new Challenges section was being added to the paid DLC Power Pack. This follows the Weekly Challenges format in being available at midnight local time, but rather than preselected events it’ll only require you to complete three Power Pack races for bonus rewards.

However there’s a much more significant change too, in that the Power Pack will now also allow you to use your own garage cars rather than the preset three.

There’s now defined restrictions for each race, just like any other single-player race, allowing you to enter any of your garage cars that meet them. Oddly they don’t even appear to be as restrictive as the single-player events, as we were able to enter a race featuring classic FR sports cars with a Maserati MC20 due to tire and PP limitations only…

You’ll only get the base rewards, and a standard pass showing in your menu tree though. If you want the challenge you can still use the preset cars, though some unspecified changes have also taken place to rebalance the cars so you may find it easier or harder than before.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: New Engine Swaps

We’ve got a wild batch of ten new swaps, some of which feature a new engine that is by far the most expensive to buy on an individual basis.

That’s the V12 from the back of the Gr.2 “BMW” McLaren F1 GTR, which now finds a home in the sibling McLaren 650S road car and — oddly — the Lexus LFA. You’ll need over 10m credits to buy one though, so thank goodness that engine tickets are still a thing…

Unusually, two of our new cars get engine swaps right off the bat. The new 911 gets even newer 911 power, in the shape of the 992’s turbo unit, while the Twingo is one of three Renaults to now have the Garage RCR Civic’s near-400hp K24 engine. Joining it are the Renault 4 and Kangoo.

A fourth Renault is one of two cars now employing the Volkswagen Golf VGT Gr.3’s unit, with the front-wheel drive Megane RS Trophy and Volkswagen Scirocco R so endowed. That leaves just the Focus ST with its Gr.B counterpart’s engine, and the classic Alfa Romeo Giulia enjoying an upgrade to the modern Giulia’s V8.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.69: Other Changes

There’s a new Scapes curation offering vertical camera adjustment, comprising the third such set and using locations already available.

Other noted changes are relatively small in number, mainly relating to new Cafe conversations and Museum entries for the new cars and the Yangwang brand. However, as always, there’ll be some changes in the update not specifically mentioned in the patch notes.

You’ll be able to read about these on GTPlanet as they’re uncovered over the next few days in our regular Undocumented Changes thread.
