Following the big Neural Expressive redesign and new voices last month, Google has updated Gemini Live with Memory access.

At I/O 2026, Gemini Live was more deeply integrated into the chat experience to allow for quick switching between voice and text conversations. Expanded Connected Apps access allows Live to call upon YouTube, Utilities, Workspace, image generation, and more during conversations. (We’re still waiting for Google Messages access.)

Gemini Live can now “use memories of your past chats and info from some Connected Apps.” This was added to the support page sometime after I/O, with Google explaining that “Gemini Live follows the same permissions that you choose when you chat with Gemini.”

In our testing, Gemini Live successfully referenced previous chat conversations. This results in “helpful, tailored responses” and is currently available in English in the US.

Gemini’s about page adds that Gemini Live can “securely remember key details you mention across different sessions, like dietary preferences, important family dates, or your favorite hobbies, so you don’t have to keep repeating yourself during future chats.”

That said, the Personal Intelligence settings page on Android still says that Memory is “coming soon to Live.”

This capability helps Gemini Live achieve feature parity with the main chat experience.
