Former California Democrat Exposed Burning Through $75,000 in Campaign Cash on Booze, Luxury Hotels, and Uber Rides

A former California congressman is facing serious scrutiny after federal filings revealed he blew through tens of thousands of dollars in leftover campaign funds on alcohol deliveries, luxury hotels, and rideshare bills.

Former Rep. Eric Swalwell, the Democrat who once ran for president and sat on the House Intelligence Committee, reportedly burned through roughly $75,000 in campaign cash on personal-looking expenses after leaving office, according to Federal Election Commission records reviewed by multiple outlets.

Fox News reported:

Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings show that former Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., spent more than $75,000 in leftover campaign funds on alcohol deliveries, luxury hotel stays, and rideshare services after leaving Congress. The filings reveal over 100 charges to alcohol delivery services like Drizly, more than $10,000 in Uber and Lyft charges, and roughly $26,000 in hotel stays including a $20,000 tab at the Ritz Carlton.

That is not a typo. Over ONE HUNDRED alcohol delivery charges. The man apparently had Drizly on speed dial.

The spending also included $4,400 at wineries and wine bars, painting a picture of a man who treated his campaign war chest like a personal open bar tab.

Campaign finance law is clear: leftover funds can be donated to charity, given to a political party, or used for legitimate political purposes. They are NOT supposed to be used for personal enrichment or, apparently, a never-ending happy hour.

The New York Post noted:

The former congressman’s spending habits came to light through newly released FEC filings that detail a pattern of charges to alcohol delivery platforms, high-end hotels, and car services stretching over months after his departure from Congress.

This is the same Eric Swalwell who spent years lecturing Americans about accountability and transparency in government. The same politician who once accused his political opponents of corruption while sitting on the Intelligence Committee.

The FEC filings paint a damning portrait: $20,000 at the Ritz Carlton alone, over $10,000 in rideshares, more than a hundred booze deliveries, and thousands more at wineries. All of it funded by donors who thought they were supporting a political campaign, not subsidizing one man’s lifestyle.

Whether the FEC decides to investigate remains to be seen, but the optics are brutal for a party that never stops preaching about fighting for “the little guy” while its members apparently live like kings on donor money.
