The New Jersey noncitizen voter registration scandal highlights a crucial distinction that Democrats have utilized to maximum gain for over a decade. You don’t have to publicly murder electoral integrity via outright fraud. You just have to display wildly reckless disregard for its basic safeguards and let the natural consequences of those actions play out as they inevitably will.
“This was not a mere coding mishap. It was the predictable outgrowth of a political culture that treats elections not as the exclusive right of citizens but rather as a mere census exercise – a headcount of certain groups who are expected to owe allegiance to the left,” former California state legislator Chuck DeVore, chief national initiatives officer at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, wrote at The Federalist on August 11.
While the state has pushed back on the allegation that it wasn’t an accident, DeVore’s broader point should be crystal clear to anyone who has been paying attention to elections across the US since 2014 or so.
‘Treat Every Warm Body as a Vote’
“Today’s progressive view of elections as a census exercise is the modern equivalent [of the old Tammany Hall political machine in New York]. In this framework, the goal is not to ensure only citizens decide the direction of the republic,” DeVore states. “It is to expand the electorate, lower barriers, and treat every warm body as a vote. San Francisco already allows noncitizens to vote in school board elections. California and other blue states rely on self-attestation of citizenship under the National Voter Registration Act, aggressive mail-ballot harvesting, and minimal verification. Democrats have repeatedly pushed federal legislation such as the For the People Act that would ban meaningful ID and citizenship checks.”

It’s Flood the Zone, or Flood the System, in this case. The system being the apparatus that assures that One Citizen, One Vote is the granite pillar that preserves American liberty.
Even notoriously biased progressive establishment news site Politico acknowledges the flaws in New Jersey’s motor voter registration process – in a state that allows illegal aliens to have driver’s licenses – are so egregious as to appear baked into the machinery.
New Jersey Democrat Gov. Mikie Sherrill on July 21 admitted that around 6,600 noncitizens were registered to vote in the Garden State due to a “software error” in the Motor Vehicle Commission’s automatic voter registration system. This admission “exposed an open secret about New Jersey’s so-called motor voter law that officials and political operatives have known for years: There’s little to stop noncitizens from registering to vote if they want to, or even by mistake,” Politico noted on July 30.
“It’s the honor system,” Hunterdon County Board of Elections Administrator Beth Thompson, who also heads the New Jersey Association of Election Officials, told the outlet. Trust people who are residing illegally in the country to honestly admit they are not eligible to vote as they receive their state-minted drivers’ licenses. Illegal voter registration was bound to result in substantial numbers.
Democrats Weaponize ‘Democracy’ to Erode Citizen Voting Power
Flood the system has been an open Democrat strategy for years. In many instances, it does not even need direct legislative approval. A Democrat Secretary of State can simply authorize wildly imprudent voter registration policies in the name of “protecting voter rights.”
“We’re seeing a coordinated national attack on democracy,” Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, chair of the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State, told Greg Sargent of The Washington Post in 2022, stressing that the position assures officeholders “have a lot of executive power to protect the vote.”
Sargent gushed about the watering down of electoral integrity in the name of voting “access.”
“Examples cited by DASS include the following: In Arizona, the secretary of state set up automatic voter registration. In Michigan, the secretary of state worked to ensure that as many voters as possible had absentee ballot forms amid the [coronavirus] pandemic. And in Colorado, Griswold helped expand the number of mail ballot drop boxes on tribal reservations and college campuses,” Sargent wrote.
Muck It Up
Along with automatic motor voter registration and mail-in voting, Democrats have aggressively pushed same-day registration and voting (truly a disaster waiting to happen), ways to automatically register a “citizen” anytime they have any interaction with government at all, and other measures that defy common sense if electoral security was a paramount concern, which of course it is not.
In 2017, New York Senate Democrats issued a press release announcing a massive “Resistance Agenda” against the first Trump administration designed to “increase New Yorkers’ voting protections and access to the polls.” Among numerous proposed pieces of legislation was a “Voter Modernization Act.”
“It is imperative that we move towards improving the voting process for the residents of New York State. We must work to pass legislation that includes a modernized process by automating voter registration, permitting same day registration, and allowing registration through the internet. The proposed legislation will not only protect voters but also make the process more efficient,” bill sponsor state Sen. Kevin Parker, a Democrat, declared.
That particular legislation did not pass, but a similar 2019 bill did. One-click voter registration online. What could go wrong? An awful lot, and Democrats fully understand this. Forty-two states and the District of Columbia allow online voter registration as of March 2026, Ballotpedia reports. In several states, including New Jersey, all you need is a valid driver’s license.
California allowed online voter registration in 2011. A study later “found that it created almost instantly more than 40,000 duplicate registrations in Los Angeles County,” investigative reporter and author Peter Schweizer said on his Drill Down podcast in June.
“The US processed 4.3 million online voter registration applications between 2014 and 2016. The US processed 27 million online voter registration applications between 2018 and 2020,” Shiloh Marx, founder of the Integrity First Alliance, an electoral integrity watchdog group, noted in a January X post. “Online voter registration applications did not require proof of citizenship.”
Well, there’s always the honor system to fall back on.
In a census-type voting structure, as DeVore aptly labels it, Democrats depend on signing up as many new voters as possible in any way they can because they know it will be a net big benefit to them even as thousands of individuals are rejected. Tens of thousands more will still get through. It’s not outright fraud in the legal sense and it’s not mere negligence. It is an intentionally malevolent attempt to create extreme harm to our electoral process in a way that provides one party copious political rewards.
