California Introduces Law Banning Investigations of Somali Fraud

It’s not exactly a surprise.

California has become the single most corrupt state in the country and the one that is most blatant about walling its corruption around with laws.

California’s legislature hid FBI investigations and costs for politicians “in the public interest”. It passed a law hiding corruption. Its capitol annex project had everyone involved signing non-disclosure agreements to hide costs. And of course it was the one place that prosecuted a man for exposing the Planned Parenthood baby parts business.

The moment Somali fraud became a national story, California politicians began issuing warnings. Not to the fraudsters, but to anyone investigating them.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Feb. 23, 2026, that hate crime resources are now available in the Somali language following reports that Somali childcare providers have been subjected to harassment, stalking and intimidation at their homes and workplaces.

Attorney General Bonta stated, “Reports that internet vigilantes are harassing San Diegan childcare providers at their homes and workplaces are extremely alarming. California has laws that prohibit this type of harassment. Last week, I denounced these deplorable acts, and today, I am happy to announce that hate crime resources are now available in the Somali language. I encourage all Californians and law enforcement agencies to know their rights and familiarize themselves with laws that protect individuals.”

Gov. Newsom popped up with his own threat.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Somali community in San Diego feels “under siege” with the arrival of right-wing provocateurs who, seeking to replicate their fraud allegations that kicked off unrest in Minnesota, have arrived at Somali-run day cares, alarming child care workers.

“They’re not fully convinced,” Newsom said, “that the state or local government is doing enough for them.”

The press account for Gov. Gavin Newsom however did threaten to arrest anyone investigating daycare fraud. “Pro-tip: Daycares aren’t content farms. If you show up demanding access to film children, don’t be surprised when the cops show up.”

Now, the law is coming. “AB 2624: Privacy for immigration support services providers.”

It’s a Swiss army knife kit for protecting fraud. You’ve got to give the one-party dictatorship running what used to be California credit for building elaborate laws around its corruption.

The Legislature finds and declares the following:

(a)Persons providing support services to the immigrant community have been subject to harassment, threats, and intimidation for their work.

(b)Persons working in the organizations that provide immigration support services have faced doxxing, courthouse targeting, online harassment, anti-immigrant vigilante threats, and coordinated campaigns and death threats. These acts have risen to alarming levels in 2025 and will continue due to the current federal administrations anti-immigration attitude and policies.

(f)Harassment is repeated, unreasonable, and unwelcome conduct directed at a targeted individual that would cause a reasonable person to fear for their own safety or the safety of a household member.

Harassing conduct may include, but is not limited to, following, stalking, telephone calls, or written correspondence.

(g)Image includes, but is not limited to, a photograph, video footage, sketch, or computer-generated image that provides a means to visually identify the person depicted.

(h)Personal information means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or is capable of being associated with a designated immigration support services provider, employee, or volunteer, including, but not limited to, their name, signature, social security number, physical characteristics or description, address, telephone number, passport number, drivers license or state identification card number, license plate number, employment, employment history, and financial information.

In short any kind of reporting on them is defined as ‘harassment’. This is the same state where masked mobs waving terrorist flags can attack synagogues and the only people getting arrested are Jewish community members who stand up to them.

(a)A person, business, or association shall not publicly post or publicly display on the internet the home address of a program participant who has made a written demand of that person, business, or association to not disclose the home address of the program participant.

(b)A person, business, or association shall not knowingly post the home address of a program participant, or of the program participants residing spouse or child, on the internet knowing that person is a program participant and intending to cause imminent great bodily harm that is likely to occur or threatening to cause imminent great bodily harm to that individual.

(2)A designated immigration support services provider, employee, or volunteer whose personal information or image is made public as a result of a violation of paragraph (1), or any individual entity or organization authorized to act on their behalf, may do either or both of the following:

(A)Bring an action seeking injunctive or declarative relief in any court of competent jurisdiction. If a jury or court finds that a violation has occurred, it may grant injunctive or declarative relief and shall award the successful plaintiff court costs and reasonable attorneys fees.

(B)Bring an action for money damages in any court of competent jurisdiction. In addition to any other legal rights or remedies, if a jury or court finds that a violation has occurred, it shall award damages to that individual in an amount up to a maximum of three times the actual damages, but in no case less than four thousand dollars ($4,000).

And voila, an instant special status gets created for ‘Designated immigration support services provider’ who may not be contacted or investigated or depicted in videos or written about it any way.

Goodbye First Amendment, and equal rights for all, hello California.
