Ramaswamy’s win sets the ground for high-profile election in the battleground state.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a former GOP candidate during the 2024 presidential election has won the nomination for the Republican primary in the Ohio gubernatorial race, according to the Associated Press.
Ramaswamy’s win, backed by Trump, sets the ground for high-profile election in the battleground state. “I know the American Dream exists because I’ve lived it right here, in the state where I was born and raised,” Ramaswamy said in a victory statement. “We’re going to revive that American Dream in Ohio once again — with lower costs, bigger paychecks, and better schools for all Ohioans. I am grateful to everyone who helped us win today’s election by historic margins, and I look forward to a decisive victory again in November.”
Ramaswamy bested Casey Putsch, who took aim at Ramaswamy’s Indian heritage at times during the campaign. Ramaswamy will face off against Democrat Amy Acton, a doctor and researcher who was the director of the Department of Health from 2019 to 2020.
Acton ran unopposed in her primary and captured the nomination for the Democrats in the gubernatorial race. The winner of the general election will replace Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
Althought Trump swept the state in 2024 by 11 points, the guberantorial election may turn out to be very competative.

Vivek’s promise to Ohio families is simple: lower costs, bigger paychecks, and a world class education for Ohio’s kids. He has spent his career turning bold ideas into real results, and stands ready to make Ohio the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”
