A U.S. Secret Service agent entrusted with protecting the nation’s leaders has been placed on administrative leave after being hit with a shocking list of felony charges.
Marquez Christopher Pinder, 29, is accused of helping carry out a brutal fraternity hazing ritual that allegedly left two young men hospitalized and fighting for their lives.
Pinder works in the Secret Service’s Miami field office. Authorities say he was one of three men involved in repeated beatings with canes and paddles over four nights in April.

The Associated Press reports that Pinder was described in an arrest warrant as the “dean of pledges” for a Miami chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. Investigators say the alleged beatings began when the prospective members failed to answer questions about the fraternity and its history correctly.
Authorities allege the abuse took place between April 1 and April 4, beginning at an apartment in Sweetwater before moving to a home in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. The three defendants were charged after a joint investigation involving local police, the sheriff’s office, and county prosecutors.
According to the warrant, one victim eventually had blood seeping through his pants. Fraternity leaders allegedly ordered the victims to remove their clothes and place them in garbage bags before sending them home.
The medical consequences were horrifying.
One victim reportedly required skin grafts and treatment for kidney damage. Investigators said the injuries could have caused fatal renal failure without emergency care.
The second victim was intubated in the hospital to prevent further physical deterioration and death, according to medical records described in the warrant.
Pinder and co-defendants Jared Lamar James and Elijah Delano Dyous face charges that include attempted manslaughter with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and hazing with a deadly weapon.

WLRN Public Media reports that the University of Miami said Pinder has no affiliation with the school or its undergraduate Kappa Alpha Psi chapter. The fraternity’s national president also said the suspects held no official role and had no authority to conduct any membership process.
The Secret Service confirmed that Pinder has worked for the agency since 2023. The agency says it is cooperating with investigators and will address any misconduct after the judicial process is completed.
Pinder was released after posting a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned September 24. The charges remain allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
