“Throughout all of the playoffs, even in this game, in the overtimes, I truly felt it in my heart, in my soul that they’re still with me.”

Rhode Island high school hockey player Colin Dorgan, who had his mother, brother and grandfather taken from him after a shooting spree by his trans father “Roberta” Dorgan last month at the hockey rink, scored a dramatic game-tying goal with seconds left, sending the Blackstone Valley Schools Co-op to overtime against Lincoln in the Division II championship game.

Blackstone Valley would go on to win the championship in overtime, sending the crowd at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence into a frenzy.

“Throughout all of the playoffs, even in this game, in the overtimes, I truly felt it in my heart, in my soul that they’re still with me” an emotional Dorgan said after the game.

Earlier this month, Dorgan scored the game-winning goal in overtime to send his team to the championship.

“It was the greatest moment of my life,” Dorgan said to local news WPRI after the game.

The shooting on February 16 left three of Dorgan’s immediate family members dead, including his mother, Rhonda, his older brother, Aidan, and his grandfather, Gerald. His grandmother, Linda, was seriously wounded in the attack, as was a family friend, Thomas Geruso.

Authorities said Robert Dorgan — who, according to police, also used the names Roberta Esposito and Roberta Dorgano — died from what investigators described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
