Mamdani added that Netanyahu is a “war criminal” who is “not welcome” in the Big Apple.
Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has admitted that he doesn’t have the legal authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York City after he has repeatedly said that he intended to do so. However, he continued his line of attack that Netanyahu is a “war criminal.”
In remarks aired on Tuesday evening, Mamdani said that Netanyahu is a “war criminal” who is “not welcome” in the Big Apple.
Despite previously saying that he will have the foreign leader arrested for war crimes, Mamdani admitted, “It is clear we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.”
Mamdani claimed that Netanyahu is the “architect of a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people” and is responsible for 73,000 deaths in Gaza, citing numbers from the Gaza Ministry of Health, which is operated by Hamas terrorists.
He claimed that the IDF has been purposefully killing children and then said that “there is a reason the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest.”
Later he added, “As I’ve said, I agree with the ICC that Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested and tried for his crimes, as I do for anyone else charged by the ICC. My administration has reviewed every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant with Benjamin Netanyahu, who came here. It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.” Mamdani then called on the federal government, which is headed by President Donald Trump, to execute the warrant.
However, that is very unlikely to happen.
Mamdani posted the video about Netanyahu to X the day after Trump said that the Israeli leader would not be arrested in the US. In a post to Truth Social on Monday, Trump said, “Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America.”
“He is fighting against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which recently killed 52,000 innocent protestors, and has spent the last 47 years killing American Soldiers, and others,” Trump added. “The only ones that should be arrested are the people that led Iran into this unprecedented SPIRAL OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous Presidents!”
