Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was a professor of Military Science as well as the head of the ROTC program at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
The instructor who was killed in the Old Dominion terrorist attack shooting carried out by Mohamed Jalloh has been identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a professor of Military Science as well as the head of the ROTC program at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
Shah as well as students were in a classroom in the university’s Constant Hall when Jalloh entered the room. Jalloh asked if it was an ROTC class. After someone answered that it was, that is when he opened fire.
The FBI has also said that prior to conducting the attack, Jalloh yelled “Allahu Akbar.” Jalloh was then subdued by students in the classroom and fatally stabbed by an ROTC cadet.
Shah was also the son-in-law to Voorhees University Trustee and alumnus Dr. Dan Martin, which was confirmed in a Facebook post from Voorhees University.
“This tragedy is felt especially close to home for us, as the victim, Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, was the son-in-law of Voorhees University Trustee and alumnus Dr. Dan Martin,” the university said. “We lift Dr. Martin and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this time of unimaginable loss.”
According to his university profile, Shah was a native of Virginia and enlisted in the Army in 2003 as an Aviation Operations Specialist.
After enlisting he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and a rotation to Atlantic Resolve. He earned his Army Aviation Senior Aviator wings, flew over 1,200 hours in three different aircraft, and saw 600 hours of combat flight hours.
